The reputation of pigs is that they are dirty, greedy, forbidden, soft, cute, and pink. In a staged world, the Hot Pig Women enjoy their existence; they sunbathe in the grass, get a tramp stamp, pose on a garage calendar, and wiggle their little curly tails. The realization that one is a woman who is attracted to other women can be complex—viewing them sexually while simultaneously fearing that the gaze is perverted or somehow wrong. Hot Pig Women is a series of acrylic paintings created over a two-year period, 2022-2024. They appear here as representations of my own underlying homophobia, which lies dormant within me and manifests itself at moments when I disagree with myself.
